Sending email from your app

What your app can send, who it sends as, the two sending calls, the emails the platform sends for you, editable templates and the send log.

On this page

Your app can send email without any setup. Every message goes out from a Praxivara sending address with your app's name as the sender name, so it reads as coming from the app. Change the app's name under Settings and the sender name follows.

Two kinds of send

CallGoes toNeedsUse it for
notifyOwner(subject, message)You, the app ownerNothing. Works for a signed-out visitorA new sign-up, an order, a form submission, an error a customer hit
email.send({ to, subject, body })Any addressA signed-in user making the callConfirmations, receipts, reminders to members

email.send is for the app talking to someone who is already a member. It cannot be used to cold-email strangers; if the real recipient is you, use notifyOwner.

Emails the platform sends for you

  • Invitations when an admin invites someone.
  • Password resets from the forgot-password page.
  • Intake form notifications to you, and the optional auto-reply to the sender.

Editing the wording

The invitation and password-reset emails have templates you can change: ask the builder (make the invite email friendlier and mention our opening hours) and it updates the subject and body. Tokens such as the app name and the link are filled in for you.

From a backend function

Functions send with ctx.email.send({ to, subject, body }), which is how a nightly summary or a reminder automation reaches people. See Backend functions.

The log

Every send is recorded under Logs in the dashboard, so you can see what went out, to whom and when. Each message uses credits and shows under the app on your Usage page; see Hosting, credits and usage.

Volume. Sending is meant for transactional email: the messages a customer expects because of something they did. Bulk newsletters belong in a mailing tool, which your app can talk to through a backend function.
